Love this MLK quote:
”I have the audacity to believe that peoples everywhere can have three meals a day for their bodies, education and culture for their minds, and dignity, equality, and freedom for their spirits. I believe that what self-centered men have torn down, other-centered men can build up.”The last sentence especially is a great reminder to practice getting out of myself and put more emphasis on what I can do for the “others” in my life today. How many times has my selfishness hurt those who I consider closest to me? It can happen in just a split second. In the snap of a finger, the choice to satisfy a desire or craving in myself has resulted in the suffering of another human being. And for what? So I could watch another 10 minutes of a sports program on TV? PU - LEEZE! Those selfish habit energies within us can really lead us to do some pretty silly and ridiculous things. When I notice these things coming up more often in my life, I know I need to spend so more time on the cushion cultivating and strengthening my positive habit energies of mindfulness and dana (giving, sharing).~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
